Your Profile:

  • PhD in life-science with a minimum of 3 years' experience and proven track record in profiling therapeutic modalities and/or in molecular target validation. Experience in an industrial drug discovery environment is a clear plus.
  • Broad skill set with a variety of molecular biology techniques and cell-based assay technologies proven by high-impact publications and optimally in drug discovery environment is a pre-requisite
  • Proven experience working with human primary neuronal cultures and iPSC-derived neurons
  • Strong expertise in molecular biology techniques enabling quantification of mRNA and protein expression levels, incl genetic engineering, qPCR, transcriptomics, Western Blot, ELISA, proteomics
  • Deep knowledge in imaging techniques such as immunofluorescence and in situ hybridization
  • Good understanding of in vitro profiling of small molecules, biologics and Genetic Medicine modalities. Experience with RNA-modulating therapies (ASO, siRNA) incl. targeted delivery as well as basic knowledge in bioinformatics is a clear advantage.
  • Good understanding on how targets/pathways can be modulated. In-depth knowledge and understanding of chronic pain disorders is a clear plus.
  • Capability to source new ideas from the scientific literature and to integrate knowledge coming from different sources by your pragmatic and problem solver attitude.
  • You are positive to the ideas of others and have a strong curiosity for learning novel techniques in a result-oriented manner.
  • You are a pro-active and self-motivated team-player with strong communication skills.
  • You have fluent business English language skills in speaking and writing; German language skills are beneficial.
  • Broad international &/or intercultural working experiences is a benefit.

Your Tasks:

  • Execute in vitro experiments to explore the human disease relevance of molecular targets and the impact of modulation with small molecules, biologics or RNA-modulating oligonucleotides.
  • Apply your expertise in neuroscience/pain and conduct tailormade experiments to identify and develop molecular technologies and cell culture methods to advance scientific ideas within projects and to characterize molecules that may become future pain therapeutics.
  • Apply your deep understanding of genetics, cellular and molecular biology/pharmacology in order to engineer, validate and apply new human cell lines and disease-relevant model systems in a target- and modality agnostic manner.
  • Take part in identifying new molecular target opportunities as well as evaluating potential external opportunities from academia, biotech or pharma.
  • Work hands-on in our laboratories at the Grünenthal Campus in Aachen, Germany, and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary project teams and help provide scientific & lab leadership to other colleagues.
